Hello!
This is my fist post on here! (Obviously...) I'm so excited to get started posting on here regularly(can't promise everyday but I can try), but first I wanted to lay out exactly who I am as a person as my very first post, mostly, to give everyone an idea about who I am as a woman, but also about what I will be writing about.
First of all, I'm clearing the air. I am not a religious woman...not by a long shot. Am I a spiritual person, yes,but I don't think conforming myself to a specific religion makes me a better person than anyone else or that it will make my personal opinion better than anyone elses. If I want to prove a point I will simply state it and maybe add some facts to support my stance on it (being the former debater that I am I tend to do this a lot). I don't try to disprove religion I firmly believe that I would not enjoy someone forcing their religious beliefs on me so I would never do that to someone else, (this has happened more often than not to me). I also believe someone cannot use religion as an excuse as to why they don't keep an open mind about things or be accepting of others beliefs. I will probably talk a lot about religion in future posts (mostly as my opinion on the affect that it has on society, ect). I try not to lump everyone that are religious into the 'crazies' category simply because I know that would be hypocritical of me and not true.
Moving on now though, you'll figure out rather quickly that I do tend have similar opinions and my value systems falls under the label of being 'liberal' (if you want to put a label on it like most people do these days, which I will more likely than not discuss in the future), I also consider myself a feminist. Today calling yourself a feminist, even being called one is considered negative, or an insult. Let me lay this out as politely as I can, just because I'm a feminist does NOT mean I hate all men...what it does mean is that I believe that women should have the right to make choices about their bodies/health, that they should have equal rights to men, and that over all women should have a louder voice in issues that involve them and men should have little to no say in making choices for us. (Once again, I will be making future posts about this issue) I'm proud to call myself a feminist. I'm proud to be a strong independent woman, that's educated, and willing to fight for inequality not just for women, but inequality in general. If you haven't already noticed I'm a very passionate person.
I guess that's where I got the name for this blog, thoughts of a young woman...I have a lot of thoughts that I want to share from my perspective. And whether or not people agree or disagree with me doesn't matter to me. If what I post even gets someone to educate themselves on whatever issue I'm posting about I consider that a win in and of itself.
People need to look out into the world because there's so much more to it than what we get the chance to experience first hand. I know one thing, I want to gather as much knowledge and experiences while I can with my limited time on this earth. I don't want to be someone that closes their mind to things simply because I don't understand them. If you don't understand something...learn more about it...educate yourself. We live in a time that we have knowledge at the tap of a keyboard...(not that we should only rely on the information from the internet completely because it can be biased or inaccurate) but sometimes people choose to stay uneducated and that to me is a great disservice to yourself.
But that just MY opinion...ultimately, I'm a giant Netflix, tumblr, book, writing, video game playing, nerd that is just trying to find my place in this world (as cheesy as that sounds) and maybe even make a small difference.
Well, that's all I got, its almost 2am and my brain is fried! I hope everyone doesn't think that all I'm going to post about is JUST my political opinion...even though that's a big part of who I am....what can I say? I'm an opinionated, young woman and damn proud of it!
